What Makes a Great Idea? Tips from Young Innovators Who Nailed It

Placeholder

Not all great ideas start out looking like winners. In fact, some of the most impactful

ones began as tiny sparks. But what makes an idea “great”? It’s not how flashy it is—

it’s how much potential it has to make someone’s life better.

Here are some common threads we’ve seen in ideas that go far:

1. They solve real problems. Whether it’s making school more fun or helping the

environment, strong ideas usually focus on something that matters to people.

2. They’re simple at the core. Complexity can come later. But at the beginning, clarity

is key. The best ideas are easy to explain in a few sentences.

3. They’re unique. Even if the problem isn’t new, your take on it is. Maybe you bring a

different perspective, lived experience, or twist to the solution.4. They come from observation. Many great ideas start when someone says, “Why

hasn’t anyone done this yet?” Start paying attention to what frustrates people (or you)

and see if you can solve it.

5. They grow with feedback. Successful young creators are willing to ask, test, and

refine. They don’t take criticism personally—they take it as insight.

Genifinity is full of people just like you, starting with nothing more than a good question

or clever idea. Don’t worry if it feels small. Most big things do at first.
